Our History

State Fair Inn was originally built in the early 1900s and was initially owned by Schlitz Brewing Company. At that time, brewing companies owned bars and saloons as a way to distribute their product. The Potocic family purchased the Inn from Schlitz in 1921. They rented upstairs rooms to guests, made their own alcohol and served meals. Room rental was eventually discontinued and the family focused on the bar/restaurant portion of the business. When you visit us, we hope you'll enjoy a taste of the history that still influences how we operate our bar and restaurant today.
